If you own an iPhone or iPad and want to play videos or display photos on a larger screen, like a TV, then you need to follow the steps below.
To connect your iPhone to your TV you need the AirPlay function, a compatible device with this function such as Apple TV.
If you also own this additional device, (Apple TV) you can easily play music, photos or videos from your iPhone or iPad directly on the TV screen, without cables.

In order to use AirPlay you will need: an iPhone 4S (or a later model), iPad 2 (or a later model), iPad mini or iPod touch 5th generation; an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), an AirPort Express or other AirPlay speakers or receivers; and a Wi-Fi network (802.11a / g / n).
The first step is that both the iPhone and Apple TV (or other compatible device) need to be connected to the same wireless network.
For devices having iOS 7 or newer ones, the AirPlay function can be accessed easily by scrolling up the lower bar, and accessing Contro Center.
There you will see the corresponding icon that looks like a TV. Click on that icon, and it will open a page where you select the device you want to connect to play your media files.
Press the OK button, and then you can return to the main iOS menu.
Now open any application that supports AirPlay (Music, Videos, Safari, Photos, or third-party applications such as YouTube, Vimeo, Podcasts, etc.) and choose which audio/video content to playback.
On every application you want to play files from, the icon appears beside the AirPlay devices in the AirPlay menu –and indicates the type of media content you’ll be able to play on that device. If you use an Apple TV, it can play the audio and video through AirPlay. If you own an AirPort Express or another type of AirPlay speakers / receivers, you can only play audio content through them.
Unfortunately Apple phones and tablets do not support Miracast or Screen Share directly to a Smart TV until now, so the only solution is to purchase a compatible AirPlay device (like Apple TV), to be able to play your wireless content from your iPhone or iPad directly to your TV screen.
