Android PC is here
Showcased along Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung DeX is the latest conversion gadget on the market and it looks really useful. In short words, it lets you connect your smartphone to a monitor. At that point, the Android interface changes completely and becomes similar to Windows.
Samsung DeX connects your smartphone to a monitor – add a keyboard and a mouse and you have a fully operational PC with the benefits of a large screen and classic peripherals.
This gadget is actually a dock where you insert your phone then connect it to an external monitor via HDMI. DeX allows you to connect a keyboard and a mouse via Bluetooth or USB.
Once connected, your phone’s screen will shut down and the external monitor will display a completely different interface, resembling the one on the first Android tablets. It also resembles Windows 10. On the right, there are icons and notifications while on the left there’s the app list and Recent Apps button. The desktop hosts extra icons and window interaction is identical to Windows, as you are able to open, minimize or modify their contents.
This is basically the first version of an Android PC. Samsung took the idea a bit further and collaborated with Microsoft and Adobe for this release, providing a better Office integration and increased compatibility with Acrobat Reader or Lightroom Mobile.
DeX is an incredibly useful tool for productivity. It lets you work in Office apps faster, using a mouse and a keyboard, all connected to your phone.
Now you can easily finish editing that document or quickly resolve pressing matters just by using your phone, but with a more efficient interface.
DeX dock offers HDMI connectivity and 2 USB ports. The phone is charged by DeX but also cooled by an integrated vent.
